How to Guide for a Community Food Forest
This handbook is designed to help you build a micro food forest tied to your community. It is the culmination of a program put together by the Cowichan Green Community to design a community food forest on a steep, underutilized space around their urban building.

Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.

Why this workshop
Last year around this time I started to look to the year ahead. Wearing glasses, the year 2020 had a specific meaning for me - 20/20 vision. Something about the year said, this is a year to have 20/20 hindsight and foresight. To be clear about where you've been and where you're going.
For me, it was exactly the sentiment I felt - a year that clearly contrasted my life and and my future.
I sat down and reviewed 2019, imagined who I'd be in a year's time and checked in with the values that were alive for my current state of being. Those values became my trajectory for the coming year. And for everything that happened, all of the unprecedented events, I've succeeded and even surpassed my expectations.
I chalk my progress up to never falling into the trap of goals, and being more concerned with my state of being. I chalk up my success to taking to the time to check in with my self and be honest about where I am and where I want to be. I chalk up how I feel today to committing to a process that doesn't stop or start at a year's end or beginning, but instead takes a bearing of the landscape around me and asks me "where do you want to go next?"
As I sat down again this year to consider 2020 and envision 2021 that old feeling of "you should share this with others" came back to to invite me yet again to share something that's been so useful and personal for me.
I reached out to a few clients to see if they would be interested in a group guided process to review, reflect and set their intention for the new year and the response was positive.
So I'm pleased to announce I'll be hosting a two hour workshop this Sunday to help those who are interested to: review, reflect and envision the year that was, and the year that is yet to be.
“You should be far more concerned with your current trajectory than with your current results.”

WHEN
Sunday December 20th 2020 at 3pm - 5pm PST
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR
This workshop isn't for everyone. It's a mental, emotional and even spiritual approach to reviewing and envisioning the past and future year. If you're someone who needs a purely mental, or purely emotional, or purely spiritual approach I think you'll be challenged by this process.
In fire fighting training there's a concept of an open and fixed mindset. If you feel you have an open mindset when it comes to a new way of approaching review and reflection I think you'll enjoy the process.
If you have a growth mindset, one that acknowledges that learning and wisdom comes from experimentation and reflect and are open to failing, I not only think you'll enjoy the process but thrive in it.
Ultimately this workshop is for those that would like to be guided through a simple yet structured linear process that reviews the past year, envisions the next and sets the intention for the values and trajectory for the year to come.
“When you fall in love with the process rather than the product, you don't have to wait to give yourself permission to be happy.

PROCESS
This workshop will guide participants through a structured process. You'll walk away with a different lens to look over the past year and prepare for the next year. Both heart felt and logical, the process in this workshop will guide participants through a:
- structured monthly review of the past year,
- assessment of the elements that supported your well being during the past year,
- guided visioning exercise for the next year,
- distillation of your desired state of being for next year, and
- setting your intention for the year to come.
You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
