Business Developmen & Web Designer - Ottawa, CanadaEducation, General, OSU PDC Student, PDC StudentI chose to do the PDC course through Oregon State University because of the level of professionalism, expertise, and guidance that was offered. It’s an established program that has an abundance of resources to cover everything you need and more. I gained so much knowledge going through it because of how the course was set up; with the online material, office hours, and applicable design project. Having Javan as my course instructor was the best part of this course. The energy he brings to office hours, constructive feedback, and any engagement with students is one of a kind. His use of technology and depth of experience and knowledge really elevates the course and I couldn’t imagine anyone better to learn from. This course was a great mix of being welcoming and challenging you to further your growth in this field. The projects were exactly what you need to learn and well thought out to use moving forward for any other designs. I’m so grateful, thank you Javan and OSU PDC! I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in Permaculture — we need you. Know that what you put into it will be fruitfully returned!

Ecological Landscape DesignerBusiness, Client, Education, General, Life Design, MentorshipDear Javan,
I want to thank you so very much for all of the support and mentorship that you provided me in our sessions together. I cannot thank you enough for your insight and belief in me when I was struggling in life and business. You have given me invaluable tools that have already yielded results, and that I will continue to work with and reference over time. I am forever grateful for you business guidance and for giving me so many great ideas based on your own tried and true experiences. I look forward to continuing to work with you in the future. Thank you always,
Elana.

Manager - FranceEducation, General, Land Design, OSU PDC Student, PDC StudentThank you for your support and instruction for the Permaculture Design course. The course was incredibly challenging, and each week I would wonder how I was going to do the homework. Then I somehow did thanks to many hours of research, redos, and support.I found the videos you and Neil made to be essential! So essential that I’m not sure how students in other groups get the homework done!It really helped to see examples and clarify expectations. I think if I didn’t have the videos, I might have found the course to be frustrating. For an online course it was rigorous and I am glad I had the time to dedicate to it and I am really proud of myself for completing it.I appreciated you encouraging us not to focus on grades but on learning, since I was definitely that student in school that cared way too much about grades. Since it was such a challenging course for me, it was validating to see that I was understanding the essentials and able to apply it to a real place.I really enjoyed the format of the course – each week using a different lens to go through the design process. I feel as though my observation and analytical skills have been sharpened and I see the world in a much more interconnected and complex way. I am excited to build on what I have learned now that I know all the things I need to learn more about!Thank you again for your support, teaching, and time.

Farmers - USABusiness, Client, General, Holistic Life Context, Life Design, Single Decision SessionWe called Javan as we listened to his podcasts for years about making better decisions. We were at a cross roads with our farm and family. The time was very valuable to us. You’re really good at this.
We needed attention and someone to hear us out. You listened in a very non-judgemental way to very judgemental stuff! The homework you provided gives us something solid to work on instead of being lost in fatigue.
We’ve been looking at context work for years and we get it now. We can’t get bogged down with our stuff. Thank you.

Gardner - GermanyEducation, General, Land Design, OSU PDC Student, PDC StudentI’m so grateful for your detailed response, feedback and the great input! Really motivating to get the design started.
I noted all the points you mentioned and would love to keep in touch over the design process. Your and Neils idea of the support group is really wonderful!
All the best to you and good luck for upcoming projects, looking forward to staying in touch.
PS – And as a little extra to my euphoria of finsihing the PCD course, i gave birth to my daughter last week, just on the finishing day of the course. She waited for me to finish the master plan 🙂 Very excited to bring up this child in the permaculture environment and mindset. Thank you so much for teaching and guiding us so patiently and professionally.

Tiny House and Earthship Building - Healthy Homes - Canada, New Zealand, AustraliaClient, General, Land Design, Pre-Purchase Land AssessmentYour guidance through our property search has been invaluable. The quality of research and attention to detail that you provide has been outstanding. With climate change, food security, fire, water management, geotechnical data, noise and views in mind, you have saved us from buying a property that did not suit us, and above all suggested incredible alternatives.
Our family has so much appreciation and gratitude for how you have helped with this process.

Student - Tanzania, AfricaEducation, General, PDC StudentThank you sooo much Javan! It’s been a really lovely time well spent. I was very skeptical at first of the whole course idea. But i have gained soooo much knowledge i think this is just the tip of the iceberg for me. Theres soooo much more to learn and experience. This is really a gift of life for me. I thank you and everyone involved and the nice environment you and Neil provided in our group. This is a kind of course where grades dont really matter. Its the knowledge you get and do something with it. Thank you so much guys, a big thumbs up from me and from my hubby who made this possible. You never know maybe will cross each other someday in Swahili theres a saying that says this – milima haikutani which means mountains don’t meet but humans do.

Climate Specialist - Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada - https://www.weadapt.org/member/rossingEducation, General, PDC StudentJust a quick note to let you know that I am deeply grateful for your comments. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy this course. Everything that I have been working on for the past 20+ years are coming together, being connected by this new precious knowledge.
I have felt very disenchanted with work for quite a while – “Compassion fatigue” sums it up quite nicely. I sorely needed such new positive inspiration,
Thank you – for your time and inspiration.

Advance Design for Climate Resilience Student - Virginia, USAEducation, General, PDC StudentI can’t begin to tell you how timely this work is; my site is a new area for me on every possible level. Mudslides, forest fires, steep terrain, lower growing zone, breath taking views and most people in the area are part timers which leaves almost 10 months without people noise. There is so much to learn and figure out with this little slice and this course is beyond helpful. You cannot imagine how grateful I am – where we are moving is foreign to me and as a farmer, having food outside of my door is paramount
Thank you – it is making a world of difference to me.

Oregon State University Permaculture Design Student - Alberta, CanadaEducation, General, PDC StudentI have so enjoyed this course and everyone’s interaction. It has been – by far – the most useful thing I have done in some time. . . Thank you for being part of the experience.
